Wing Chun - Introduction PDF Print E-mail

Wing Chun Gung Fu is a martial art developed in southern China approximately 300 years ago by the Buddhist nun Ng Mui, who used her knowledge of Shaolin Kung Fu to distill only the most efficient and effective techniques. The style became known as Wing Chun, after Ng Mui's first student, a woman named Yim Wing Chun.

Features of Wing Chun include:

  • Emphasis on movements from the centerline, the vertical line running through the center of the body.
  • Emphasis on speed, and skill as opposed to brute force, which thus makes it well suited for women.
  • Emphasis on learning to feel your opponent's energy, through sensitivity to touch and feel.
  • Close, in-fighting techniques, with an emphasis on the upper body.
  • Simultaneous defensive and offensive moves, as in tan-pak, which uses one hand to block while the other hand simultaneously strikes.
  • Simultaneous use of upper and lower body, as in techniques where striking or pulling with the arms/hands is combined with simultaneous kicking.

Heritage Martial Arts is a proud member of the  Fong's Wing Chun Gung-Fu Federation, based out of Pheonix, Arizona.
